His research expertise is in nanomaterials and functional materials for new energy technologies (electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, batteries, fuel cell, supercapacitors). He has co-authored more than 370 papers in refereed journals, including Nature, Nature Energy, Nature Materials, Nature Chemistry, Nature Communications, Angew Chem Int Ed, J. Am. Chem. Soc, Advanced Materials (over 37,000 citations, h-index: 100). He has filed three patents on novel nanomaterials and attracted more than 11 million dollars in research grants from industrial partners and Australian Research Council .In recognition of his achievements in research, he was honoured with a prestigious ARC Laureate Fellow , ExxonMobil Award , ARC Discovery Outstanding Researcher Award (DORA, 2013), a Emerging Researcher Award (2013, ENFL Division of the American Chemical Society) and a UQ Foundation Research Excellence Award . He has also been awarded an ARC ARF Fellowship, an ARC APD Fellowship and an inaugural UQ Mid-Career Research Fellowship.Dr Qiao is an Associate Editor of Journal of Materials Chemistry A, a Fellow of Institution of Chemical Engineers , Royal Society of Chemistry and Royal Australian Chemical Institute . Dr Qiao is a Clarivate Analytics/Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher in two categories (Chemistry, Materials Science).

It includes the first-time synthesis of hexagonal-close packed Au nanosheets on graphene oxide, the first-time synthesis of 4H hexagonal phase Au nanoribbons , the synthesis of crystal-phase heterostructured 4H/fcc Au nanorods, the epitaxial growth of metals with novel phases on the aforementioned Au nanostructures, and the synthesis of amorphous/ crystalline hetero-phase Pd nanosheets. In addition, the first-time synthesis of 1T'-MoS2 and 1T'-MoSe2 crystals have been achieved. Moreover, the phase transformation of transition metal dichalcogenide nanomaterials during our developed electrochemical Li-intercalation method will also be introduced. Interestingly, the lithiation-induced amorphization of Pd3P2S8 is also achieved. Currently, my group focuses on the phase-based properties and applications in catalysis, surface enhanced Raman scattering, waveguide, photothermal therapy, chemical and biosensing, clean energy etc., which we believe are quite unique and very important not only in fundamental studies, but also in practical applications. Importantly, the concepts of crystal-phase heterostructures and hetero-phase nanomaterials are proposed.Keywords: Crystal Phase; Noble Metal Nanomaterials; Hexagonal-Close Packed; Face-Centered Cubic; Gold; Ultrathin Nanosheets; Transition Metal Dichalcogenides报告人简介:Dr. Hua Zhang obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees at Nanjing University in China in 1992 and 1995, respectively, and completed his Ph.D. with Prof. Zhongfan Liu at Peking University in China in July 1998. He joined Prof. Frans C. De Schryver’s group at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium as a Research Associate in January 1999. Then he moved to Prof. Chad A. Mirkin’s group at Northwestern University as a Postdoctoral Fellow in July 2001. He started to work at NanoInk Inc. as a Research Scientist/Chemist in August 2003. After that, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist at Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore from November 2005 to July 2006. Then he joined the School of Materials Science and Engineering in Nanyang Technological University as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to a tenured Associate Professor on March 1, 2011, and Full Professor on Sept. 1, 2013. Dr. Zhang’s research is highly interdisciplinary. His current research interests focus on the phase engineering of nanomaterials and controlled epitaxial growth of heterostructures, including the synthesis of ultrathin two-dimensional nanomaterials (e.g. metal nanosheets, graphene, metal dichalcogenides, metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, etc.), novel metallic and semiconducting nanomaterials, novel amorphous nanomaterials and their hybrid composites, for various applications such as catalysis, clean energy, electronic devices, nano- and biosensors, and water remediation.He has published 5 invited book chapters, 73 patent applications (including 8 granted US patents and 1 Singapore patent), and over 450 papers, among which 203 papers were published in IF>10 journals and 103 papers were published in 8 journals.
